District 47 Vancouver Island was established in 2007 and is one of two established to serve RTOERO members who live in British Columbia. The district plays a key role in helping members stay engaged and connected, with each other and the community.
Because of the large geographical area of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, District 47 has two units. The Victoria Unit’s members live in the Greater Victoria area, communities south of the Malahat and the southern Gulf Islands. The Mid/Upper Island Unit serves the needs of those who live north of the Malahat and the Gulf Islands from north of Salt Spring Island.
District 47 is situated on the traditional territory of Indigenous peoples including the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ and people in the Coast Salish, Nuu chah nulth, and Kwakiutl regions. We also acknowledge the urban Indigenous communities in our district.
District 47 Vancouver Island recognizes the inequities connected to colonization and commits to working towards creating a just, inclusive and vibrant community for all.
We invite our members to reflect the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action.
